Yale Model United Nation Conference

16-26 January, 2017

As we look back upon the past six months of our lives, there is nothing that has taken as much dominance in our lives as Model UN. Yale MUN was our first international conference and one of the most memorable conferences we have ever been to. Model UNs are always an amazing thing to experience, and the Yale MUN was more so. The first three days of the trip were spent in walking through and exploring the mesmerising place that is the New York City. We visited sites that hold historical significance such as the Grand Central, Wall St, the 9/11 Memorial and Central Park. We visited the New York University, one of America’s most renowned universities and learned about how life there is like. To experience international relations and diplomacy first-hand, we toured the UN Headquarters, and indulged in interactions at the International Peace Institute and the US Permanent Mission to the UN. All of this was as much a learning experience as it was fun.
The next day, we drove to the picturesque place of New Haven as the YMUN commenced. For four days, we indulged in intense committee sessions, deliberated over world issues, and formed new friendships with people of diverse backgrounds and from all parts of the world, and also learnt about life at Yale. All of this was an entirely new experience and in a way, revelatory. To add another fun aspect to the MUN, there was the amazing Delegate Dance. Finally, we bid our adieus to the beautiful campus of the Yale University and drove back for another day in New York.
At every step there was laughter, and with every laugh there was something to learn. We explored the city for another day and left the next day as changed persons, with lots of new learnings and memories that will be cherished for a long, long time to come. We express our heartfelt thanks to MUNCafe and Deepa Ma’am for this life-changing experience!
