Inculcating IB Philosophy

In the past 2 months, I have learnt a lot about how to view the world with an open mind and how I can become a global person with an international mindset. In the first week we discussed about the learner attribute “caring”. Everyone was given a task or a situation in which we had to give CPR to a person who had suffered from an acid attack. That time I realized that being caring just not only means having sympathy towards someone or being kind and helpful, but it also means that you have the courage to face the situation as well. The second profile that we discussed about was “risk taking ‘’.

Our tutor asked us what our fears were and motivated us to overcome them. Many of my classmates who were afraid of public speaking also tried to overcome their fears by presenting a speech or by just reading the news clippings in front of the class. Somewhere down the line even I was a little bit afraid of speaking in public but then my tutor motivated me to overcome it by just speaking about myself and keeping my views in front of the class. We even made a presentation on what various other risks we have taken and whether they proved to be beneficial or not.

Then we even talked about the upcoming CAS project on tourism. The class came up with different ideas as to how we can improve and promote the tourism of our state. We had full round table kind of a conference on it where each student at least spoke one point which made it an interesting and interactive session all together. All these discussions and activities also inculcated some of the ATL skills in me like “communication, social, research ,and thinking skills”. Even through all of this, our notebooks were also checked by the tutor and we were even asked if we were facing any sort of problems in any subject or not. These past 2 months have been very enlightening and knowledgeable for me as I learnt quite a lot of new things and am glad I did.
