CAS Fundraising

20th August, 2016

On August 20, 2016, Choithram International School organized a CAS Fund raising activity for the DP-1 students. It was an interdisciplinary activity with CAS and biology combined. The students had put up their own food stalls and even added creativity to it by producing a variety of different flavors and combinations. But the real challenge was to sell a healthy snack which was likeable by all the students.

There were stalls of whole wheat pasta and wheat noodles followed up by mouth tempting desserts like walnut brownies and apple pies. At the same time it was also made sure that all these snacks have the minimum of transfat and sugar and were a healthy option. Every item sold was marked with how much calories it contained. The students enjoyed a lot as it taught them snacks can not only be junk food but healthy too. Today the DP-1 students would have surely learnt what the IB – Learner profile : risktaking actually means . It was truly an enlightening and enjoyable experience for all of us.

The DP-1 students marked a milestone in their journey of CAS by organising a fundraising activity in school on the 20th of August, 2016. The students unanimously decided on putting up stalls to sell healthy, nurturing food items in order to raise fund for charity and raise awareness about the importance of a healthy diet.

They were guided by their teachers and fuelled by the responsibility to do something to help the organisations they are connected to as a part of their CAS programme, namely Jyoti Niwas (Old Age Home) and Helen Keller Blind School, and also for the beautification of Pipliyarao village. The students listed down food items that they could sell and after discussion, decided on some of them. All of them were assigned responsibilities and accordingly, they commenced the preparations. The students endeavoured to integrate their subjects of Biology and Business & Management in the preparation and selling process. On the day of the event, the food items were liked by all and the BMI scale counter was a point of attraction.

A product of the students’ consistent efforts and and teachers’ guidance, the fundraising event proved to be a great success. Not only did the students make use of the concepts in their Biology and Business & Management courses, but also honed the IB learner attributes such as balanced, principled, reflective, risk-taker and communicator in the process. The DP-1 students have been inspired by the positive response and look forward to hosting many more events like this, helping the community as much as they can.
