Sreevidya Ayyar - A Triumph of Strong Will and Determination
Unabashed celebratory words are in perfect order to salute the rich achievement of SreeVidya on her splendid efforts in scoring a perfect 45 in the IBDP final May 2016. She has not only crowned herself with much deserved glory but also has lent much needed boost and inspiration to CI and its IBDP fraternity. Scoring the maximum 45 is no mean achievement by any standard. This required the ultimate effort in sustained manner throughout the two challenging years of IBDP. Sree has demonstrated that if there is a will to succeed and touch this magical figure, one will have to arm oneself with sincerity, habit of hard work and sharp concentration with resolute manner. Her subjects demanded complete focus and she did not disappoint the faculty as she rose up to master the complex conceptual pedagogical issues and problems of knowledge. It was an incredible feet of intellectual stamina and perseverance. Sree has proved herself to be a versatile learner and her co-curricular and extra-curricular activities ranged far and wide like dancing, swimming and anchoring. All these showed touch of excellence on her part. She always made it a point to share her knowledge and expertise with her fellow classmates in a very unassuming manner. I was always pleasantly surprised when Sree kept pace with me brilliantly by discussing the intricate issues of Cold War and Chinese Civil War in History. Her deep interest in TOK was admirable and she went beyond the topic of the essay in elucidating complex knowledge issues. The same case was in respect of Extended Essay where she handled the complex theme related to Second World War in depth and required skill. Finally, by this achievement, Sreevidya has raised the benchmark for the present and the future generations of CI to emulate. She seems to be saying “O ye, my friends, if I can do it, why can’t you?”

My IB journey has been a roller coaster ride. I knew it would never be easy but I also knew that I had to give my 100% if I want to succeed. And believe me, if you work hard towards your result, all that pain and stress would seem nothing against the final result.
It’s not like I didn’t make mistakes, I did, a lot actually. I procrastinated and panicked. I was not able to do anything whenever I panicked but then one day I realized that this was it, so I sat down and did nothing for a day but plan. I planned how I will complete my assignments, do my revision and give extra time for subjects that I’m weak in. But planning only works when you are motivated enough to work. Between the stress, it is difficult to keep yourself motivated, but it is also necessary. Everyone has different ways of motivating themselves, so come up with your motivation techniques. To keep myself motivated, I set a target total IB score for myself and stuck it on a wall which was the first thing I saw in the morning. My day started by looking at it and it kept me motivated as every day I worked towards achieving that score. For you, it could be your dream university, a country you have always wanted to study in or anything. Just find your source of motivation and remind yourself every day, that if you work hard today, you could achieve what you want tomorrow.
